Improving financial awareness for non-finance professionals

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is the leading global professional accounting body, with more than 241,000 members and 542,000 students worldwide. Its qualifications provide individuals with the up-to-date knowledge and skills they require to become highly competent finance professionals in all areas of business and commerce.

ACCA wanted to produce a financial awareness course for non-finance professionals and that could be rolled out to the wider business community via its in-house Learning Management System. Hillgrange were chosen to design, develop and build the course; working closely with ACCA's subject matter experts and Continuous Learning Solutions Team, the work was completed in less than 10 weeks.

The eight modules, which leveraged ACCA's financial expertise and covered topics such as budgeting, understanding cashflows and financial statements, measuring performance and financing SMEs, were built in Rise 360 and include bespoke animations explaining many of the key concepts. Hillgrange also scripted and produced engaging introduction videos for the full course and an abbreviated version, so that learners would know exactly what to expect before signing up.

Speaking about the Finance for Non-Finance Professionals course, Trevor Edwards - ACCA's Continuous Learning Solutions Lead - said "Not all of our audience are full-time accountants, and there was a significant need to provide non-members and business partners with the core knowledge they need to either manage business financial performance on a part-time basis or interact with their own finance departments. The course which Hillgrange helped us design and develop does this really well and coupled with the application-based tasks we have devised, means that no learner will lack insight into what it means to be or to work with a finance professional in this day and age."

"We have just launched an enhanced version of the course for members of executive leadership teams and are planning to use this approach for other professional development courses too. It's been quite a challenge, but we are very pleased with the results and the support that Hillgrange have provided."
